R&D Engineer

ibmv is a small marine consultancy based in Rostock providing R&D and consultancy services to marine industrial clients. Depending on qualifications and previous experience, the applicant will be fully involved in computational fluid dynamics of various marine-related topics.

Typical research and development areas include:

  • Optimisation of ship rudder geometry
  • Rudder-propeller-hull interaction
  • Ship manoeuvring and control
  • Linear static structural analysis
  • Nonlinear composites analysis
  • Calculation of structural eigenfrequencies & vibration analysis
  • CFD Analysis of innovative design concepts

The applicant will report to the Head of R&D, and will undertake CFD and analysis on a project-based approach as directed by the Head of R&D. The projects are typically commercial (industrial clients) or government funded research projects.

The applicant will be expected to attend meetings, liaise with clients, perform analysis and prepare reports and, if necessary, present results of contract and research work to the client or at technical conferences.

A combination of commercial and in-house CFD software is used. Full training for the commercial CFD and/or FE software applications used at ibmv will be provided. It is expected that the applicant will be able to develop small programs in Fortran/C/Delphi etc. to accomplish individual ancillary tasks.
